I have updated the post to include a warning about possible privacy issues with this widget, and to point out that Apple's Pages application can easily open a .docx file, and Apple's Numbers will open a xlsx file without trouble. For whatever reason it was occupying 75%-95% of my CPU while installed. Finally figured out why my machine was so slow, remove the widget, and now have a happy machine again. I now have 3 copies of it on my desktop that I can't delete. When I try to delete from the trash it says "The operation cannot be completed because the item "images" is in use." Since it is a widget you should try removing it from the widgets folder in either /Library/widgets or /Users/{your username}/Library/widgets. Then you should be able to empty the trash. If you continue to have issues with getting rid of it, hop over to the forums.macosxhints.com and see if there is someone who can offer additional help.
